During my A-levels, I voiced and suggested a tutoring session to the Maths Head of Year - in which sixth form A-level Maths students would help those students in GCSE Maths that were maybe struggling in the subject. It was approved and I went on to help students in one-to-one tutoring where I would ask them if they had any problem areas in the subject and we would focus on that. I would make sure I had a secure understanding of what the student did and did not know so I could work effectively for the session. And I did this for a year and half.
I would like to volunteer at Tutorfair Foundation because I am very passionate in tutoring, I feel like it's a way to help students through bringing a different and in depth perspective to a particular subject. I really liked Maths in my high school education and believed it was very useful to understand for future careers - I am currently taking a maths module for my Economics degree as I want to apply my knowledge to real world instances. In terms of Tutorfair Foundation, it is a very well respected company in the UK with many 5-star reviews and I would love to be apart of a community. I also appreciate the emphasis on helping students enjoy and feel motivated in a subject as they may have not felt that before. I strongly believe that through feeling more comfortable in a subject - you are more likely to remember and learn the lessons much more easier.
I would ask beforehand any specific topic/aspects that my tutee would want to go over and plan my session for in terms of this - to tailor our time in our lesson efficiently and really help them. For my approach to tutoring, I would first ask how they were to help them have a positive mental well-being (not just focused on the lesson too much). I would state clearly what we would cover in the session and ask what knowledge they already have of a certain topic to get a better view of what they do and don’t understand. Then I would build a strong base knowledge for the topic first so they can bring the right and correct understanding for their future work. I would order the session from then on as followed: content/formulae, examples, questions assisting them if needed. But mostly overall, I would go over the lesson with patience and caution because I would rather take my time with my tutee and build a strong understanding than rush through content consistent of faulty knowledge
