I am a recent graduate from the City University of London. Having done GCSE as well, I understand how overwhelming it can be. I have personally found asking questions in lessons during school to be intimidating. Therefore with my previous tutoring, I have learned to ensure that the teaching style is not overwhelming and something that suits the students. I would like to tutor as I believe sharing knowledge is key, and I would like to help students who would want that extra support. In my lessons I always repeat, no question is stupid! Always ask questions and I will be willing to help.
I have taught in an informal setting to my younger family friends. This has enabled me to build my confidence. I furthermore am a mentor at my workplace for students. This has further been able to reconsolidate the way I teach. I ensure I adapt the way I teach according to each student's ability.
English - regular spelling test and comprehension (primary), Go through the spec (Secondary)
Maths - mental maths test and teach new topics.Regular topic tests.
Chemistry/Biology - Ask the student what their weak topic is and what they need help on. Using that information builds my lesson. I will also give regular tests.
Overall I would try my best to give them additional homework for them to do, in order to apply the knowledge learned in the lesson. This homework would have to be sent back to my prior next lesson in order to avoid spending additional time in lesson marking the work.
