I’m a first year university student currently studying English literature at the university of Edinburgh offering weekly online tutoring for GCSE and A Level students in English, History and Drama. I am deeply passionate about these subjects and aim to create a warm, engaging and interactive learning environment for students enabling them to unlock their full potential.
I have over three years experience working on a voluntary basis with a children's theatre company, leading games and activities with groups of young children many of whom had special educational needs. This invaluable experience taught me the importance of adaptability and when working with children, which I aim to integrate into my tutoring approach through tailoring lessons to suit students' individual needs.
I approach tutoring with a genuine interest in getting to know each individual student and aim to ensure that all students, no matter their ability and academic goals, feel comfortable and encouraged to work within a friendly and supportive environment.
English: (currently teaching Edexcel and AQA literature and language at GCSE, AQA at a level)
I work with students to heighten their analytical and essay writing skills. This consists of regular exam practice with detailed live feedback to sharpen the clarity and articulation of their ideas. I will also help students to ‘think like an examiner’, incorporating regular annotation of high grade answers into lessons.
History: (currently teaching AQA Tudors and Cold War modules at a level)
Having shifted my history grade from a B to an A* In the final months of sixth form, I understand that History is a daunting subject for many students. My approach to teaching history centers on clear and simple explanations of essay technique, using essay templates that make the process of integrating evidence, analysis and argument accessible and clear.
Drama: (Currently teaching Edexcel at GCSE and OCR at a level)
Studying at a performing arts School during sixth form taught me the often overlooked rigorous academic side to studying drama at GCSE and A Level. My approach to tutoring drama aims to help demystify what is expected of students when considering live theatre and playtexts through an academic lens. Essay writing is at the center of my approach, with live constructive detailed feedback and example essays being frequently provided to allow students to understand the demands of the subject and achieve their potential.
