Qualified physics teacher and experienced professional with a Ph.D. in physics.

Tutoring Experience

Finding physics/science difficult? Has recent time away from school made you feel physics is even harder? Together we will overcome this through exciting and engaging lessons based on your everyday experiences that will make the seemingly impossible, possible. This will make physics meaningful and easier to recall resulting in the success you deserve. I am a career Ph.D. physicist with over 25 years of experience in industrial physics research working with companies around the world. I have a 1st class B.Sc. in physics and Ph.D. from the University of Leeds as well as a QTS and PGCE in secondary school physics education and an enhanced DBS certificate. My 25+ years working in physics has helped me develop ways of explaining physics that help with recalling concepts. Seeing the spark of interest in science this produces is what my teaching is all about; when science is fun and engaging, learning is enjoyable.

Tutoring Approach

I am a career physicist with over 25 years of experience in industrial physics research working with companies around the world. I have a 1st class B.Sc. in physics and Ph.D. from the University of Leeds as well as a QTS and PGCE in secondary school physics education and an enhanced DBS certificate. After studying I worked at the University of Cambridge researching the physics of nanostructures. I then worked at the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) as a Principle Research Scientist for nearly 20 years. As part of this work, I was head of a group of scientists developing functional materials for novel sensing applications as well as new measurement techniques for International Standards. During this time, I was convenor of an International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) committee working group developing new written standards for magnetic steels and alloys. After running my own physics consultancy for 3 years, I decided to become a teacher as I wanted to pass on my physics knowledge and experience to future generations.
