I am what many describe as an Early Career Historian, but my interest in history goes beyond educational attainment and a love for research. I volunteer, lecture, and guide at a local level to inform communities about their past. For example, I am currently leading the creation of an exhibition on migration, from Roman Britain to the present, in my local area.
Beyond this I am an amateur photographer, both digital & analogue, past & present, an avid film lover, with my favorite film being Blade Runner, and I am also well travelled, with recent trips to Belgium, Finland and Japan. I lived in Japan for a short time and I am working my way towards being fluent with the language.
I have considerable experience from my time teaching at Cardiff University during my doctoral studies. Here, I organised and curated lessons, chaired student led debates, and provided key advice and revision materials for coursework and exams. I have also mentored and tutored other academics and doctoral students for their Advance Higher Education accreditation, which I possess. I was also all an examiner throughout my time teaching and tutoring at Cardiff University.
From my undergraduate degree, all the way to my doctoral studies, I have studied and researched topics across all four core parts of Human History. From Ancient History, Medieval History, Early Modern History, to the present with Modern History. Rest assured that I am proficient and prepared for all.
My academic research is primarily on Anglo-Japanese diplomatic history from the nineteenth century to the present, with an expanding focus on British and Japanese diplomatic history more broadly. History is my passion and I am excited to pass on my experience and knowledge to help others with their historical studies and interests.
There are basically three ways that we can go about things:
We can undertake a deep dive into a topic that you truly struggle with from top to bottom. I will devise lessons that cover the topic's entirety, from start to finish, including advice, materials, and practice questions.
Or there might not be a specific topic you find difficult, but there maybe several similar historical themes or particular sub-topics you just want to brush up on. In which case I can develop lessons to focus on those instead. This is much the same as above, but just a more scattergun approach to reassure you on topics you find more difficult than others.
You may just wish wish for exam and coursework practice. In this context, lessons will focus more on revision, exam preparation & methods, mock exams, and more general tips & tricks. We can prioritise whatever area you wish to strengthen when it comes to nailing exams and getting the grade you deserve!
We can do as much or as little as you find helpful. We can do one or all of these lesson types. I am completely open to whatever you feel will help you and your learning most.
