Private Online Maths Tutor

I am passionate about teaching and enjoy interacting with students from different backgrounds. I have four years of teaching experience which I gained whilst doing my PhD at the University of Strathclyde. I have also gained international teaching experience at Gulf University for Science and Technology in Kuwait, where I taught five Mathematics modules for three years. More recently in the Removed, I develop, co-ordinate and promote support materials, from FE entry level to postgraduate level.

Tutoring Approach

Having worked with local communities for some time I find that many potential students do not apply for university, not because they lack the ability, but they are unsure whether they have what it takes. I have therefore taken it upon myself to organise and co-ordinate events in my local community that help adults from under-represented backgrounds find confidence in their abilities. I co-ordinate regular weekly badminton games, monthly hillwalking and choir groups. This boost in confidence allows individuals to feel in charge of their lives and subsequently their education. I have also organised seminars where faculty members visit schools and colleges in order to engage students in learning and considering HE.

It is important that people of any age are not bound for their lifetimes by the decisions and experiences of their past. As part of a project to increase awareness of different routes into HE, I have visited ethnic minority groups in Isle of Bute—many of whom have been out of education as they fled conflicts in their home countries.

It brings me joy and great satisfaction when students, who would otherwise never consider going to university, excel in their studies and become role models for others.
