Richard Matthew

Ever since my own days at school I have had a real passion and enjoyment for mathematics. I regularly took part in the UK Mathematics Challenge and hold several 'Best in School' certificates to my name. I studied independently for additional qualifications in statistics and further mathematics at GCSE and A Level respectively. At degree level I achieved a 2:1 BSc Hons in Mathematical Sciences from Bath University, one of the very top universities in the country for this subject. Having completed my PGCE in Secondary Mathematics I went on to work at Ivybridge Community College, which has been rated an outstanding school in its last four Ofsted reports.

Tutoring Experience

I trained for and completed my PGCE in 2008/09, gaining experience in Devonport High School for Boys and Tavistock College in the process. Following the completion of the course I began teaching at Ivybridge Community College across the full range of Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. I have a wide range of experience, from helping students towards their Entry Level qualifications to ensuring A* candidates achieve their full potential. I have provided individual tuition to students over the last two years and have good experience of working with learners with special educational needs.

Tutoring Approach

My passion, experience and deep understanding of the subject allow students to make significant progress with their mathematics. I am friendly, enthusiastic and creative in my approach and offer a wide range of tailor made resources. I provide personalised learning plans, based around students' individual needs, and have an extensive library of subject-related material. I can provide tutoring at primary or secondary level, from Key Stage 1 all the way up to Key Stage 5. I use a range of different approaches in my teaching and believe that maths should be fun and engaging.
I offer a flexible service and can arrange times to fit around your commitments, at a location that is convenient for you. I am a qualified teacher and member of the GTC. I hold a current CRB and can provide references and qualifications upon request.
