Online Maths Tuition

My name is Matthew. I studied maths, further maths, chemistry and physics at a sixth form college in a small town called Richmond in North Yorkshire. The grades I achieved were A*A*A*A respectively. I am currently in my second year at the university of Manchester, studying theoretical physics. When I was in year 10, I had a tutor that taught me maths and science. This tutor inspired me to look deeper into mathematics and physics. This then led me to discovering my passion for the subjects and has ultimately led to me studying physics at university. I hope to do the same as my tutor did with me, to help inspire young minds.

Tutoring Experience

I have two younger brothers that have just done there GCSEs. One was working towards a grade 9 and the other towards a grade 5. I frequently helped both of them with any content they struggled with, even though they are working towards such different grades. They found that being explained mathematics from a perspective that is different to there teachers is extremely beneficial. Because they were working towards such different grades, I have experience carefully explaining the lower graded content, and also have experience pushing and challenging my other brother to think outside of the box when approaching grade 9 questions. I also have a sister that is currently in year 11. She too frequently asks for help. I am in the process of teaching her how to build maths intuition, as I believe it is the key to understanding the subject.

Tutoring Approach

I will go through the textbook from start to finish with the student ,explaining the content very clearly, and following that up with practice questions. If the student has any difficulty with a specific topic area, then I will start with that. The best way to learn maths is to do maths. Therefore I will be going over and setting lots of practice questions and past exam questions. The practice questions that are set to do outside of the session will be marked. Any questions that are answered incorrectly will be carefully gone through in the following session. If the student struggles with any content that they are learning at school, then we will go through that first.
