Matthew’s great work in the last 12 months has been critical in enabling my son to be qualified and admitted to a place in one of the top UK universities. Under the steering, supervision and encouragement of Matthew, my son has made serious effort and concrete improvement on the structured understanding of the A level subject through regular homework-based excellent learning methodology and examination tactics. Matthew has been of indispensable help to me both in my studies in History and my University Application Process. We had devised a long-term plan in our first lesson and he subsequently always came to lessons prepared with points of action. This was especially evident prior to a University admission interview, when he conducted highly realistic mock interviews that boosted my confidence and enabled me to verbally articulate my arguments much more effectively than before. Furthermore, Matthew's method of structuring essays was extremely useful in my final History exam, as I was able to concentrate on the content of my answer after repeated essay practices with him made the structure almost intuitive for me. Overall, Matthew is a very pleasant person who seeks to establish a personal relationship with his students and demonstrates a wide range of knowledge even outside of his area of expertise, thus making discussions with him both highly enjoyable and illuminating. He promptly responded to all of my queries and doubts over text outside of our lesson time, and I could not recommend him enough to anyone who wishes to improve their academic skills or develop their interest in a particular subject area.

Matthew helped me improve my grade in history within the first few sessions by taking the time to go through my essays with me line by line. He is very kind and thoughtful in his approach to tutoring, I couldn’t recommend him more.

Matthew is brilliant; his teaching methods are great. Very clear and concise. Always lectures with the intent to help you understand the material. He encouraged reading Primary sources and hence helped me developing historical methods. He’s helped me understand content for college courses and knows the contents to a deep level. I started to find the connections between historical events, viewing them within social backgrounds and various perspectives.

Matthew was extremely helpful with his guidance on postgraduate study and interview prep! His insight into the admissions process was invaluable and constructive.

Matthew set up a mock interview with 2 other interviewers so that it mimicked the admissions process, and provided feedback after the mock interview. This was a great way of uncovering weak points in your preparation and allowed you to resolve these issues before that real interview. I would definitely recommend this service to any graduates/ undergraduates unsure about the postgraduate admissions process. I'm happy to say that I was accepted to do my Masters at Cambridge University, and Matthew was instrumental in this outcome.

Before receiving tutoring from Matthew, I had tried a lot of different things to improve my essay writing. I had attended many university workshops as well as watching YouTube videos. None of those worked for me as I still was receiving low 2:2s for my written work. In the space of four lessons, Matthew helped me improve my grade from a low 2:2 to a mid to high 2:1. In our first lesson Matthew quickly identified that my writing style was my biggest problem, not my research. Over the subsequent lessons Matthew helped me iron out the biggest problems in my writing style. This was especially important for me because prior to studying Economic History at University, I had picked maths based A-Levels. So naturally, I'm more inclined to write in a scientific way rather than a historical way. In addition to this, Matthew will provide you with great support materials such as his essay writing guide and will find you authors who write in a style that matches your strengths.

Matthew has been fantastic. He helped my son with both his Oxford entrance exam and interview and I believe he was pivotal to a very successful outcome (my son has just awarded a place in the college of his choice). Matthew is an excellent communicator, organised and flexible in his approach as well as being extremely knowledgeable and a skilled tutor. He went above and beyond both in terms of his time and sending additional information - a brilliant tutor.

Matthew taught my daughter for her GCSEs in English and English Literature. She achieved a 7 and an 8 respectively after only getting 5s in both subjects in her mock exams. Matthew is extremely knowledgeable about History and has demonstrated his ability to help our sons, both of whom chose to pursue a scholarship route into their secondary school, in improving their understanding of what the question is asking and how to structure their answer. He also helps think through the abstract or vertical style of history which is common in scholarship papers, and which is not taught particularly well in schools. If one has kids considering scholarship or higher in History, Matthew is a must!

Could not have asked for a better HAT tutor than Matthew! I not only received a high score in the Oxford entrance exam but my understanding of the historical method improved drastically, which also helped me to also score a high IB history grade! In her A2 year my daughter's long term English teacher went on maternity leave leaving her feeling very unsure. Matthew basically became her teacher for the year. He planned a schedule of work during the year and revision nearer the exams. He brought the best out of her in her coursework, in which she achieved very high marks. Having had virtually no teaching at school she sat her English exam today and is thrilled with her performance. Matthew is reliable, organised and is willing to go beyond the call of duty. He is also and extremely smart, well rounded young man. I have three children and I have yet to come across a more able tutor.

Matthew is that rare combination of inspiring and utterly thorough. In the run up to A level, my son has found his A level history lessons both fascinating and exam focused. Matthew has thoroughly covered sections of the syllabus, dramatically improved his essay technique and helped him plan an effective revision strategy. But more than anything, my son has come away from Matthew's lessons engaged, intellectually challenged and looking forward to the next one!

Matthew helped my 16 year old son through AS History last year and we were very impressed with him.
