Hello! My name is Pia and I am a first-year Biochemistry Ph.D. student at the University of Cambridge / Gurdon Institute, funded by AstraZeneca. My previous educational experience was located at St George's (SGUL), in the heart of London, where I undertook a Biomedical Sciences degree and obtained a first-class MSci degree. During this time, I also did a lab-based placement year at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) and obtained a Distinction in my final report for this.
Further to this, I have had several lab assistant roles - notably working for the Prostate Cancer Research Team at SGUL. I am also an active STEM Ambassador and have my own science blog to help spark interest in young people for science and research careers.
I have previously taught friends and family in English, Maths, and Science (Biology) and have also been able to conduct interview practice for jobs/university applications, offer CV help and advice, as well as personal statement feedback. These are all extra things that I will be more than happy to help with should the situation arise for my tutee.
I am extremely friendly, patient and calm in my approach to teaching. Since I have taught family friends before, I am able to teach a wide range of students. I have previously taught students in Science, English and Maths, with the result being an increase in grades and a general increased interest in the subject itself.
I believe that enjoyment of learning is an essential tool to performing well in exams and assessments and find that connecting with my tutees and working with them to ensure a happy learning environment and study experience is extremely rewarding! Looking forward to meeting and studying with some of you soon!
