Widnes Maths and English Tutor

Hi. I'm Mark and I was a primary school teacher for 15 years. As a teacher, my roles included: class teaching; some SEN teaching; English and Maths management; general curriculum design, development and implementation, and regional leadership in a Christian-based curriculum - so rest assured I am experienced and able enough to help you and your child/children. My reviews show you that I am professional, positive, supportive and encouraging, that I work quickly to build productive relationships and that great progress is made and sustained, and that I have built a good, strong, solid experience in tutoring enabling your children to progress and achieve. Feel free to get in touch to discuss how we can plan tutoring to work best for you; there could be many ways to provide tutoring that helps.

Additional Information - I offer a range of tutoring services - primarily English and Maths - for: catch up work; to fill gaps; for some non-specialist SEN issues; to complement school work; to turn around the fortunes of those who are disengaged, lacking confidence or not in school for whatever reason; to tutor children where any issues have a negative impact on school attainment for whatever reason and tutoring to extend school work for those children who are excelling, or could be excelling, or that require additional work at the higher end of the scale. Please note - I do not offer tutoring for adults, foreign tuition, specialist SEN or special language courses for non-English speakers, more specialist courses such as 11+ exams or specific school Entrance Exams, I'm sorry.

Tutoring Experience

I graduated from Liverpool Hope with a 2:1 Bachelor of Education degree in History, Education and Primary Teaching. I successfully taught across Years 3 to 6 with some mainstream SEN teaching and through other posts I held, I was very successful in curriculum design, implementation and leadership, creative teaching and intervention teaching (School History Leader; KS2 Curriculum Leader; School Creative Curriculum Leader, KS2 English and Maths Leader, School 2014 Curriculum Leader and KS2 Interventions Teacher). I was instrumental in establishing the 2009 Creative Curriculum and the 2014 National Curriculum into school and in developing long-term links between our school and an International School in Barcelona. I also developed and promoted the 2014+ Christian-themed curriculum 'What If..?' in school and across the North West of England.
I left school teaching to pursue other interests which include the privilege of being able to personalise and tailor learning for children as well as building their learning within the national curriculum. I have now been tutoring for nearly four years, and my reviews show you that I am a good, strong and solid tutor enabling children to progress and achieve.

Tutoring Approach

I tailor the tutoring to the needs of the student. I try to make lessons fun, relaxed and informal, but I am aware they need to be productive. Reviews from other tutoring show me to be professional, supportive, engaging and encouraging.
