Online Sociology and Health / Social Care Tuition

I am a married mother of two adult children, a mature teacher, who has three granddaughters, age ranging from 17, 11 & 5. I have been in the educational setting for over 7 years, and have a vast amount of transferrable skills, which has given me a great insight when supporting young people.

Tutoring Experience

I have industry experience and specialist knowledge in Sociology that is transferable to a range of educational disciplines such as Health and Social Care and Criminology. Moreover, since undertaking my teacher training within the Care and Early Years Department, I have gained knowledge and experience in planning and implementing lessons. This includes devising a range of assessment resources that reflect what students have learned throughout their courses and various units. My delivery of the curriculum has involved incorporating a variety of resources, into my lesson, such as Mentimeter, kahoot and word wall, allowing for differentiation, across all levels. My involvement in the assessment planning process has been to use a specification provided by examination boards and create an assessment task linked to teaching and learning. For example, students needing extra support, I would include more practical assessments to reflect their understanding of the unit and the course, followed by providing alternative assessment methods for students who may have severe learning or sensory difficulties. Along with planning and implementing assessments I have been involved in the internal quality assessment process, which requires me to review the marking of other teachers within the department
Working in a department that delivers various course programmes provides me with the ability to work collaboratively with others both internally and externally. I use my previous transferable skills such as teamwork, sharing good practice, delegating tasks and prioritising workload. These skills have enabled me to work effectively as an active team member as well as working collaboratively with parents and carers to provide outstanding support that enhance development. As part of sharing good practise, I have experience of working alongside student services who provide emotional and well-being support for learners, which also supports teachers with strategies on how to support the learners within those classes.

Tutoring Approach

As a Learning Support Assistant and now a teacher of Criminology, i have first hand experience when supporting learners who struggle within a classroom setting. My approach is to allow the learner to express themselves, whilst i facilitate. My positive encouraging tone, plus open body language has also allowed me to engage with learners at all levels, ensuring that I am acting in an inclusive manner.
