Online Maths and English Tutoring

I have recently retired after teaching Primary School children for 28 years. I have a passion for reading, crafting and baking.

Tutoring Experience

Hi. My name is Marie Knight and I have recently retired from teaching. I enjoy reading, crafting swimming and baking.

I completed a 4 year BEd (Honours) degree, at the university college of Scarborough, the North Riding College achieving a 2.1 before moving to Kent.

I have been a Primary School Teacher for 28 years and have experience working with children from 6 years old to 11 years old. I was previously an Assistant Head and Key Stage 2 Leader of a two-form entry Junior School of approximately 430 pupils. Before this I spent 20 years working as a teacher, Advanced Skills Teacher in ICT and acting Assistant Headteacher cross both primary phases and I take pride in having worked at the same school I grew up in.

Recent training includes
Dyslexia and Learning Difficulties

ADHD
I have also had training using the Read, Write, Inc phonic scheme

Learning Support Team:

During lockdown, I was responsible for developing the online teaching platform in school, monitoring and responding to parental questions and support and leading assemblies and teaching online across the junior age range

I understand the importance of addressing children’s needs and supporting them in their next steps in learning. I have a secure knowledge and understanding of the National Curriculum and am able to plan accordingly to children’s needs. I also have experience in the rigors of the 11+ test ( as Kent has a Grammar school model of secondary education), and the pressures of SATs in Year 6. Through the virtual sessions, I am able to work at children’s pace and work on the skills they need, particularly when working 1-2-1. I always try to make learning fun, engaging and interactive (as much as possible virtually) and mainly aim to develop children’s self-esteem and confidence in all they learn.

Tutoring Approach

Discussion with parents and child is key to success. My lessons always start with a game or activity. Focused learning is modelled and shared with the opportunity for the child to work independently and support and modelling are given. A lesson always ends with key successes and identifies next steps
