Marie-Louise

I am a fully qualified secondary English Language and Literature teacher with five years of experience teaching in UK schools. I studied English at the University of Cambridge and also gained an Master's of Education, and PGCE in Secondary English from the University of Cambridge. I am now based in Hong Kong teaching but I have taught in the UK for several years and also conducted education research with children in Jordan and Angola.

Tutoring Experience

Over my years of teaching experience I have taught students aged 11-19 English Language and Literature, Drama, lower school Latin and tutored students for their Oxbridge interviews. I have taught both lower ability students with Special Educational Needs and Gifted and Talented students and my experience covers UK and international examination boards (AQA, OCR and iGCSE).

Tutoring Approach

I really enjoy designing resources and tailoring lessons to an individual student's needs and fine tuning a syllabus to a student’s interests. After all, we all engage and learn more actively when we're interested! In the past shaping resources to suit a student's interests has involved examining the transcripts of TV presenters for English Language A Level or understanding characterisation and context in Victorian novels through examining Victorian paintings for GCSE English Literature coursework. It is important to me to create an encouraging and supportive environment when teaching so that students feel confident to actively engage and ready to learn.
