Hello! Following a very busy career as a university lecturer and research manager, I now dedicate my time to tutoring primary school children P4 through to P7 (including transfer test preparation), and secondary school Math students. Math has been a passion of mine from a very young age and is a joy I love to share with students. English skills and the ability to communicate well are also passions of mine and the reason I became a Cambridge-qualified ESL teacher. I have a BA and an MBA from the University of British Columbia, Canada, and a doctorate from the University of Oxford. When I am not spending time with my students or preparing materials for tutoring sessions, I love spending time with my family and our dog, Millie. I love languages, reading, and anything to do with numbers.
I have been an educator since 1985 in a broad range of roles. I have tutored children through entrance exams, taught as a university lecturer in the UK and in Europe, coached sport, taught English as a foreign language, and supervised research students. My university teaching focused on social sciences (history, sociology, and anthropology) as well as research methods. Formally, I have been trained in teaching and learning at the university level, and in teaching English as a foreign language. Overall, my favourite thing to teach has always been how much fun the process of learning can be when you have the confidence and skills to achieve your goals.
My tutoring students have 100% of my attention, one-to-one, via Zoom. I have found over the past year+ since switching to online tutoring that the tutor-student relationship is just as strong as face-to-face! Sessions are online via a password-protected Zoom room. They are usually one hour long and are paced according to the individual student, based on want-to-do and need-to-do goals set together with the child and parents. Overall, my goal is for students to feel more confident, secure and enthusiastic about their work. I am patient, flexible, caring and have a great sense of humour, all of which make the tutoring process enjoyable. I love to go the extra mile for my students for a truly personalised approach. With me, tutoring is about sharing and developing a passion for learning which inevitably leads to better school performance and ultimately a happier child.
