Home Tuition for Maths and English in Peacehaven

My name is Margaret and I live by the sea in Brighton. I have been tutoring Maths and English for 5 years to young people from 6 - 16 years and adults. I have been a teacher all of my adult life and have worked both abroad and in the UK.
I love tutoring and working one to one or in small groups with students. Tutoring allows the student to learn at their own pace, ask questions away from the social pressure sometimes felt in the classroom and to grow in confidence whilst improving their skills.
In my free time I love travelling and playing the piano.

Tutoring Experience

I have always taught in schools and colleges, but following demand from parents locally to tutor their children, I started up a small business alongside my part-time job as a tutor five years ago.
I have now tutored face to face for three and a half years and since March 2019 online from home. I teach separate Maths and English lessons with some clients asking for Maths/English combined lessons. I have worked with children from 6 - 16 years old and a range of abilities. My main area of expertise is with those children who struggle the most at school and need some one to one attention to build their confidence and boost their skills.
In addition I have experience in teaching for KS2 SATs, 11 +, Functional Skills and foundation level GCSE.

Tutoring Approach

I tailor every lesson to the needs of the student and their learning style. I like to bring learning alive through fun, engaging and practical activities as well as make it meaningful to everyday life. I focus on building a child's confidence and unpicking the barriers to progression as well as presenting clear explanations of the concept and skill we are working on with plenty of opportunity for practice.
As school is a student’s primary learning environment, I ensure that my tutoring programme complements classroom progression. I offer feedback to parents at the end of the lesson and set homework as required.
