I have been teaching for 20 years. After gaining my degree in English from the University of Nottingham, I completed a PGCE in Secondary English at the University of Leeds. I have been an examiner for a range of different subjects and levels from Year 9 to Year 11 GCSE.
I have taught English for 19 years in a range of different settings, ages and groups - from Year 7 to Year 13, from GCSE to A level, in state and independent schools and have spent the last 9 years at an academically selective school.
Tailoring bespoke content to what the student enjoys is really satisfying - often as soon as I teach something that is about a subject you enjoy, that’s when real learning and progress can begin.
So for me, it’s about making the subject enjoyable because that immediately makes it accessible, and that’s when you really start to learn, retain and make progress.
