Ciao! My name is Lucia and I am 23 years old. I recently graduated from the University of Bath in Business Administration with First-class Honours. I have experience working in investment banking, private equity, PR and marketing. Currently, I am working in Product Management in a software company.
I was born in Naples, Italy and grew up there until I was 7 years old until my family moved to London. Italian is my mother-tongue but I have also taught myself Spanish! I have always been interested in different cultures, languages, and learning about different customs; I am passionate about sharing my learnings and experiences with others to support their development.
Outside of work, I enjoy cooking, running, cycling, reading, and travelling.
A-Levels: 3A*s and 1A.
GCSE: 4A*s, 5As, 1B.
I have tutored British-Italian children and teens (7-14) to develop their confidence in spoken and written Italian as well as reading and listening.
In the past, I have supported pupils with vocabulary development, sentence construction and pronunciation, as well as teaching about Italian history, customs and traditions.
I have also helped my older pupils with essay writing, planning and structuring, a technique which they have carried past Italian lessons and into other subjects at school.
I am flexible with my teaching approach and I am able to adapt based on :
a) The overarching goal of the tutoring (improve pronunciation, improve grammar, learn how to read Italian etc.)
b) The existing proficiency of the pupil with the language
c) Parent feedback
I use various methods depending on whether the focus of the lesson lies on listening, reading, writing, speaking, grammar or vocabulary skills. Below is an example of a method I have used in the past:
For vocabulary expansion/speaking lessons for older pupils (11+) I enjoy focussing my lessons around global current affairs (e.g. Healthy Living, Sporting Events, Sustainability, Technology etc.) or any particular interest of the pupil (if agreed upon by the parent/guardian.) We will typically go through a list of key vocabulary relating to the topic in question as well as useful sentence starters and structures, and we then spend the rest of the lesson discussing the topic. For example, we could discuss arguments for and against veganism, or different opinions on artificial intelligence.
My biggest focus is to ensure that the pupil progresses with every lesson. With every student, regardless of age and proficiency, I conduct informal in-class tests to check their knowledge of previous lessons. These can take various forms, such as: vocabulary tests, written tests about what the pupil did at the weekend, spoken tests about a topic we discussed in our previous tutorial etc. I will score these and provide constructive feedback on the pupil's work, targeting key development areas and helping them to reach their full potential.
I would love to hear from you and would be more than happy to help you/your child. It is very important to me that you are satisfied with my tutoring too, so I am pleased to offer a satisfaction guarantee. If you are not happy after lesson 1, you will get your money back.
