I am a professional tutor who specialises in working with teenagers. I have recently moved my successful tutoring service from North London to Ealing. The students I work with are from comprehensive and selective entry schools in the state and private sectors.
I teach face-to-face at my home as well as online.
I teach A-Level and GCSE English to students who might be struggling with the syllabus or who want more challenging approaches in order to gain top grades. Studying texts involves analytical and writing skills as well as independent thought: we set goals and reach them.
Prior to qualifying as a teacher in 2011, I wrote publicity material in the communications/public relations industry, and can train students how to write clearly.
My students come from a variety of schools and colleges, including:
St Benedict's School, The Ellen Wilkinson School for Girls, Ada Lovelace High School, Elthorne Park High School, Twyford High School, North London Collegiate School, The London Academy, JFS, Highgate School, Highgate Wood School, UCS, Wren Academy, Queen Elizabeth's School Barnet (QEB), John Lyon School, Camden School for Girls, City of London School for Girls, City of London School for Boys, The Latymer School (Edmonton), City & Islington 6th Form College, North Bridge House School, South Hampstead High School, La Sainte Union, London Oratory 6th Form, Lycée Charles de Gaulle, St Marylebone School, Southgate School, Mill Hill County School, Mill Hill School, Channing School, Haberdashers' Aske's Boys' School, Haberdashers' Aske's School for Girls, Parliament Hill School, Woodhouse College.
I trained at the University of London Institute of Education and at City & Islington Sixth Form College. I have an Enhanced DBS Certificate.
I have a number of GCSE English students who intend to take Sciences and Mathematics at A-Level, and who said at the first lesson that they disliked studying English, particularly poetry. After a while, they discover that they enjoy reading poetry and analysing texts. They also discover that being able to express themselves clearly in writing is not the tiresome activity that they originally thought. I am happy to work with disengaged students to improve their motivation and self-discipline.
I also teach highly motivated GCSE students who have chosen English as an A-Level option, and A-Level students who plan to study English at university.
By the end of the first lesson, I will have a clear understanding of the student's learning needs so that we can agree on how to continue. With my support, students motivate themselves to be creative and disciplined. Students of all abilities usually discover that they actually enjoy analysing texts and working with language. They are then equipped to meet the exam board assessment objectives and get good grades.
Here are some testimonials from current and former students. Please also see the reviews.

Louise was a wonderful tutor for our daughter. We were recommended by friends in North London. We first asked for GCSE tutoring and she was able to get two 9s in English literature and language within 3 months. This is because Louise is very organised and can immediately spot weaknesses in exam technique and knowledge and she is able to fix this very quickly. Louise’s help was crucial for my daughter being able to get an A* in English literature. She completely transformed my daughter’s essay writing through her motivating guidance, organisation and thorough marking. Under Louise’s teaching, my daughter was always commended for English at school. I would highly recommend Louise to anyone looking for a fantastic English tutor!
