Maths and Physics Tutoring in Hammersmith

I am a recent graduate from UCL with a passion for Physics, Mathematics, and Computer Science. I decided to pursue STEM tutoring as I believe the logical and problem solving skills developed through these disciplines to be beneficial in all walks of life, whether a career in science and technology is your ultimate goal or not.

Outside of academia I enjoy playing sports, and captained one of the UCL Hockey teams for 2 seasons as both an undergraduate and postgraduate. I am also a self-taught jazz pianist and saxophonist, and have arranged a multitude of pieces both for solo piano and larger ensembles. In my experience choices outside of the classroom can have as much of an impact on academic performance as the studying process itself; having a balanced lifestyle can do wonders for your confidence, and self-belief truly is the key to success.

Tutoring Experience

I have been involved in private tutoring on a freelance basis since the 2nd year of my undergraduate studies, helping students achieve their goals in both GCSE and A level exams. After graduation I worked in the aerospace sector, developing a textbook for the training of new aircraft engineers which is now in widespread use across Europe.

Tutoring Approach

As a tutor, I always seek to prioritise understanding of concepts over wrote learning of methods and solutions. Maths, Physics, and Computer Science, are all problem solving oriented fields, and having a good grasp of the principles underlying the problem will equip students with the tools they need to tackle anything academia can throw at them. As much as possible, I encourage students to discover solutions themselves by asking them the right questions, as opposed to providing the answer directly.

I am a strong believer in visual learning - simply drawing out the problem and writing down everything you know about it so far can often lead to the solution becoming self evident. I am also confident in, and have experience with, writing bespoke questions tailored to the level of the student when available resources are inadequate.
