I have just finished my undergraduate in Biology at St Andrews with first class honours. As someone who hasn't had the smoothest road academically, I know just how important a good teacher is to keep motivation up. I aspire to do science communication in the future as I'm passionate about making maths and science accessible and interesting to more people, and I hope this comes through in my teaching style. I teach online for £35 but am based in Edinburgh and can negotiate in person teaching depending on distance (roughly £45 instead).
I have officially been running my own private tutoring business since the 2020 pandemic where I supported several students through online school. Since then I have helped several cohorts of students through their GCSE/Nat5 exams and been so proud following them on their academic journey. I have several references, with some families where I taught multiple children. I've gotten science grades from barely passing to 8 and 9, and several of my students took science and maths into higher levels despite their teachers saying they wouldn't pass GCSE.
Doing one on one tutoring is a great opportunity to really help students get to grips with the material. My approach is that if the student is engaged and does not understand the material, I need to explain things in a different way until they do. I've taught many students with learning difficulties and often they can get behind and disheartened when they don't understand something at school. Individual lessons allow them to ask questions and be curious about the subject, without the pressures of a larger class.
