Online History and Geography Tuition

I am a passionate tutor and teacher committed to improving education and life skills of young people. I'm a qualified secondary school teacher of Humanities, Youth Training Officer for community energy youth training schemes and a personal tutor. I also run online History courses for young people aged 11-16 years old and work as a volunteer director for Banister House Solar, a community owned solar energy system we installed on social housing.

Tutoring Experience

I have 16 years experience working in Education that includes 12 as a Humanities Teacher in East London Schools, where in addition to teaching classes I tutored students individually in Geography and History and ran intervention sessions to help them catch up. My roles have included a year and a half as Head of Year, three years as Head of History and three years as KS3 Coordinator of History. In addition I worked as an EAL Teacher in a secondary school for two years teaching small groups of students and tutoring individual children aged 11-16. I taught English to teens and adult ESOL students in a further education college for a year and privately tutored adults in English as an additional language for a year.

Tutoring Approach

My approach is to tailor my tuition sessions to the educational needs of the student taking into account their learning style and any additional learning needs they may have. I aim to build a rapport with both young person and parent in order to help the student make progress. I provide regular tasks, assessment and feedback with the expectation that students respond to feedback with improvements to their work in order to gain the practical knowledge and skills to succeed in their subject.
