I am an experienced Head of Geography with 17+ years of teaching Geography in secondary schools to KS3, GCSE and A-Level students. I have spent most of my teaching career working in inner London schools, but I have also worked in other schools across the UK. I have a solid commitment to the academic growth and development of every child. My strengths are planning and delivering inclusive lessons and supporting all students to reach their full potential. I have a strong record of outstanding teaching throughout my career and I have a 2:1 BA (Hons) degree in Geography from The University of Birmingham and a Geography PGCE from The University of Oxford.

Tutoring Experience

I am a very experienced Head of Geography and Geography Teacher. I am a Geography GCSE examiner for AQA and OCR exam boards, plus I have also taught Edexcel. I have in depth knowledge of the National Curriculum at KS3-5 and extensive experience of curriculum development within schools. I have excellent subject knowledge and I am a member of the Geographical Association and Royal Geographical Society. I am highly experienced in working with students who have Special Educational Needs and Disabilities and students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health issues. I attend statutory safeguarding training regularly and I have a fully Enhanced DBS check. I am also the school lead for Global Citizenship activities and am teacher governor.

Tutoring Approach

I enjoy problem solving and helping students overcome barriers to learning. I work to develop students’ confidence in Geography through a variety of creative teaching approaches and strategies. I have developed an extensive bank of engaging resources over the years to suit the needs of a wide range of learning styles. I am accustomed to working flexibly and I work closely with students to understand the gaps in their learning and work on how to close these gaps to enable students to achieve their target grades. I work with students on developing their subject knowledge, improving their exam skills, focusing on understanding questions and improving writing styles, and mastering the fieldwork aspect of the curriculum. I have a very high success rate with students often achieving higher than their target grades.
