I am a first year student at Oxford University studying Politics, Philosophy and Economics. I graduated from North London Collegiate School in the summer of 2021 having achieved an A* and 3A's in Maths, Economics, Politics and my EPQ. I enjoy teaching and working with children who are eager to learn and hope to continue to do both for as long as possible.
I have two years experience teaching Maths and English literature and language to small classes of around 2- 5 students. The classes were preparing for entrance to competitive grammar and independent schools at 7+, 11+ and 13+ such as North London Collegiate, Haberdashers, Henrietta Barnet and Latymer Upper School.
I typically set an initial timed assessment to identify a student's strengths and weaknesses within the subject itself as well as their general exam technique. Having discussed the goals a student is working towards and specific time frame this is to be achieved in, I can then create a suitable timetable that addresses any new topics that need to be taught as well as old ones that need to be revisited. I tend to sandwich difficult material with revision of more familiar material both to build confidence in the subject but also to allow students more opportunities to work on their exam technique more generally. The content of individual lessons will mostly involve joint work, with a relatively smaller portion of the lesson being dedicated to either teaching or individual work. How groups of lessons are structured will vary depending on the student's learning style and preferences but regular assessments will be set for all students, often with 3 or 4 week intervals in order to track progress and accustom students to an exam-like setting.
