Private Special Needs Tutor in Sittingbourne

My name is Lauren and I am a year 6 teacher in Kent. I am fully trained in paediactric first aid and have lots of experience in schools. I also have the incedible advantage of having my gorgeous therapy dog Digby, who is able to join us for sessions at my house if appropriate.
I am an absolute believer that every single child has the potential to thrive given the correct environment and support. I am currently completing a schools direct course to gain my qualified teacher status, which means I am furthering my knowledge across the curriculum and learning the latest and most relevant theories and ideologies surrounding education. I have an extensive collection of resources and materials to ensure that tutoring sessions are engaging for each and every child.

Tutoring Experience

I am currently teaching in year 6, having worked in classrooms as a teaching assistant, 1:1 inclusion assistant and a high level teaching assisstant for over 8 years. I completed my degree alongside working full time and loved every minute of it. I am a fully qualified paediactric first aider, and have successfully completed courses in diabetes, epilepsy and allergy awareness,

Tutoring Approach

I believe that every child has the ability to achieve when their capability is unlocked by high quality teaching and learning experiences. I avoid the 'sitting and listening' approach, instead using active, engaging activities with manipulatives to fully embed the learning. A typical in-person session will include a flashback to revisit previously learned skills, modelling and demonstrating a new skill, followed by practicing the skill using manipulatives. Sessions with also include a consolidation activity to take home when required. If virtual sessions are preferred, manipulatives will be utilised to model and their use will be encouraged if available to the children in their place of study. Consolidation tasks will be sent via email.
