Lauren May

I am 31-years-old from a small town just outside of Cambridge called St.Ives. I am a mum to a 1-year-old named George, who is a cheeky energetic boy. I got married in 2022 to my long term partner who I met in Scouts and is the reason I now live in Chesterfield, an area which I love. I am extremely active and love to workout, it is great for my physical and mental health. I will often go on dog walks with my cockapoo, Emmy, or a run, a hiit class, weights class or a dance class. I am a member of the European Scout Federation and have been since I was 10, I am now a cub leader, helping to pass on knowledge and experience to the younger generation. We camp all over the UK and Europe. I am lucky to have a wonderful support network and a large group of friends based all over England.

Tutoring Experience

I qualified as a teacher in 2015 from the University of Derby, I completed many placements during this time. The two main ones were in year 1 and then all of KS2 (year3-6). I completed a year as a supply teacher just after qualifying due to being new to the area (Chesterfield). During this time, I completed two long term supply placements and an Ofsted with the second school. Since September 2016, I have worked at Spire Junior School in Chesterfield in mainly year 3 and 4 but I am about to start the new academic year in year 5.

Tutoring Approach

I am a fun loving teacher who builds good relationships with her students, making sure I get to know them as individuals and find out their likes and dislikes as well as their family set ups. I follow the KAGAN approach mainly as believe it is good to offer peer support/teaching which builds on mastery and helps those that are more reserved to build on their knowledge with the support of their peers or to confirm their answers.
