High-quality education is life-enhancing. Globally, not every child is provided this right – a right that provides opportunities, shapes perspectives, and encourages students to self-actualise. I firmly believe that every student, regardless of their background or circumstances, deserves access to quality first teaching which equips them with the knowledge, skills, and the chance to thrive. I am ambitious about helping lead and delivering a curriculum providing this opportunity.
My experience to understanding the privilege of an education began with my attendance at a workshop hosted by Trailblazers, a charity focused on mentoring young offenders to prevent recidivism. Hearing the stories of individuals caught in a cycle of disadvantage due to the lack of education and opportunity, deeply resonated with me. Though some would suggest this is an extreme realisation, it underscored the critical role that education plays in breaking these cycles and how it awards freedom. Being a teacher of social sciences would further allow me to use my commitment to empower individuals on a larger scale to build paths towards success – this includes colleagues and the students I have the opportunity to interact with either directly or indirectly.
