I am an experienced senior leader and Head of English, with sixteen years as an 11-18 (KS3, KS4 and KS5) secondary school teacher and private tutor. As a Head of English I have achieved outstanding results, consistently achieving in the top 5% of national school results for progress. I love and thrive on my subject and see English as a gateway for young people to use their voice for success in the real world.
Sixteen years' classroom teaching and tuturing, including seven years as a Head of English. During that time, I have been a GCSE examiner which has given me expert knowledge of the papers and marking accuracy. I am currently an Assistant Headteacher leading on literacy across the school. Furthermore, I have taught across the full ability range, with further expertise in SEND and EAL.
I have used the full range of tools on Mircosoft Teams for the past five years to ensure online learning is collaborative and efficient.
As I am working in school on a day-to-day basis, I have an approachable manner towards school children and young adults. I believe in a tailored approach to learning; therefore, I assess students' strengths and areas for development through conversation and current schoolwork to determine the skills and content to be taught. I value developing students’ foundational literacy skills and can access resources and mark schemes for all exam boards to ensure responses are precise and fulfil the requirements of the exam board. In addition, frequent feedback is a priority in lessons to maintain progress.
