Selected experience:
English, Secondary, Sept 2016 – Present: Jacob strongly disliked English when I first met him but with a consistently encouraging and enthusiastic approach, I was able to help him engage with his texts and build on his understanding of literary devices. He is on track to achieve a 7 despite her school having predicted a D grade before tuition.
English, 11+, September 2019 – Present: Freddie struggled to understand non-literal language and apply detailed analysis to English comprehensions. Through working with a variety of well-chosen texts, visual tools and engaging in conversation and debate about his texts, I was able to help Freddie improve his confidence and ability to write high scoring answers. Freddie was offered a place at his first-choice school and has continued to develop his language analysis further.
Classics, Undergraduate, July 2020 – August 2021: Cressida struggled with ADHD, time management and feeling overwhelmed by her course. By implementing a clear and consistent timetable, mentoring program she was able to begin work again. We built a mentoring relationship and I provided space for debate, proof-reading and consistent feedback on essays. Cressida successfully completed her every aspect of her course and gained a 1st class degree.
In wider experience I have taught English language and literature in Japanese universities and worked for schools and universities as an educational support worker.
. I believe in encouraging the interests of each student. As such, I craft schemes of work that build core skills whilst focusing on their particular interests, whether that be Viking Gods, exestentialism or Harry Potter.
I am an engaging, patient and dedicated tutor, I pride myself on helping each student achieve their highest possible grade.
