Kim

I have worked in an outstanding independent school environment, for 12 years and have extensive hands on experience working as a professional Teaching Assistant focusing in the Early Years and Pre-school setting. My main role was in providing Special Educational Needs and varied support roles across all year groups in either 1:1 or groups. I have a keen interest in supporting children with Special Education Needs, and finding the correct multi layered support that each child requires to be able to find ways to achieve and be successful. My approach is to apply child led strategies and tools to support every young person who has difficulties processing not just academic learning, but also routine, behaviour and understanding of the world, whatever their difficulty. I also have a deep passion for crafts of all kinds, and like to apply craft based learning, if appropriate? to each need. Learning through crafts has shown to improve self-expression, mental growth by providing opportunities for trying out new ideas, new ways of thinking and problem solving. I am ELSA Qualified. The ELSA role is about understanding the Psychological development of young children and considering the meaning behind their behaviours. It is about applying Psychological principles to the process of supporting and promoting change. This is the most enjoyable part of my support as the rewards from personalised child led support can become apparent quite quickly and are incredibly rewarding. I am particularly patient and calm, when working with any child, but have a great sense of fun and like to make sessions as fun, interesting and engaging as possible to get the best out of each child.

Tutoring Experience

My experience comes from having a direct hands on support role for many years. Based in the Early Years and Primary school setting. I have been lucky enough to have worked in an outstanding school setting where the provision of support to each child was of the highest standard and where I have had the pleasure of working alongside many different specialists in their field. Educational psychologists. speech and language and Physical therapy professionals.

A Thematic approach is applied in each session to provide a broad range of applications and tools in learning and age relevant life skills to allow each child to succeed in their learning both at School and at home.

I also provide continual development and progress management and reports with a multi task approach to identify, coordinate and plan, the best pastoral care based strategies for successful outcomes for young children.

Experience as below:
Behaviour management strategies and reward systems.
Social and Emotional learning strategies. SEMH.
Listening, communication and expression development.

Tutoring Approach

My approach right at the beginning is to build trust with each child, in order for them to feel comfortable working with me and allow a natural, indiscreet assessment of behaviours, interests and environmental factors in their day to day lives. From there the provision is to build a framework of personalised support around each child in order to access each need as it presents itself. A Thematic approach is applied in each session to provide a broad range of applications and tools in learning and age relevant life skills to allow each child to succeed in their learning both at School and at home.
