I work with students to improve their grades, and their enthusiasm for English. Having worked in education for 20 years, often training teachers and advising senior leaders, I know that many students are not getting the support they need, regardless of the pandemic. I specialise in providing a friendly, personalised and impactful approach to learning, drawing upon my varied career inside and outside of the classroom [in the real world].
I have over 10 years' experience in secondary schools, sixth forms and colleges teaching a wide range of subjects (English, Humanities, History, RE, Psychology & Sociology), and I have also been a form tutor and curriculum lead.
Since 2020, I have specialised in tutoring English, and I pride myself on ensuring my students have clear goals, find our sessions useful, and enjoy them. I am always thrilled to read the positive feedback students/parents/carers provide.
2021-22 GCSE student feedback example from Y11 student (references available):
"I was really struggling with getting the grades I wanted in my exams at school due to not having the support from my teacher. But thanks to Keith, I managed to gain a lot more confidence in the subject and exams. In the end, I managed to get the grade I wanted. So big thanks to Keith for all the help!"
Additionally, I spent 3 years managing a large University Outreach Team where I designed and delivered study skills programmes for schools across London and the South-East. Aside from running sessions for students, this also involved delivering training and professional development for teaching staff.
I have further experience in Higher Education as I managed a university college of 2,500 students for a Russell Group University (University of York) for 5 years. Aside from running educational programmes for staff and students, I was also responsible for the wellbeing of the students whilst also overseeing the day-to-day running of the halls of residence.
I only work with a limited number of students at any one time. I get to know them, and what interests them. My sessions are designed to provide 'top tips' on how to make tangible progress in your subjects, and I use my experience as a counsellor/wellbeing coach to build confidence over time.
