Hello! I am proud to say that I have entered into my 21st year of teaching. I thoroughly love working with students who want to learn and improve their English - either a native speaker wanting to brush up on their literacy skills; or a non-native speaker wishing to improve their English communication skills. I work full time for a further education college as well as working for summer schools for visiting teenagers across the globe. I adore my career and can't imagine doing anything else.
I began my teaching career in 2004 when I used to work for Portsmouth City Council's Family Learning team. I taught literacy, numeracy and IT as well as French and Spanish. I later moved into ESOL focussing on teaching English as a foreign language but still teaching literacy when required. I am also an exam assessor and mark exam papers across 5 levels of ESOL.
My teaching approach is always based around the student, first and foremost. If the student prefers visual learning, then I provide visual aids. If the student prefers more speaking activities, then I provide speaking/listening opportunities. If the student prefers to work slowly and more methodically, then I plan step-by-step. If the student has an exam for which they are preparing, then I research their exam board and work to the exam criteria. The student will always be at the centre of what and how I teach.
