Tutoring Experience

praised by external examiners and has so far graduated two successful cohorts. I have taught advanced literacy and employment skills for young adults, specialising in CV writing, interview skills and return to learn. I have supervised undergraduate and postgraduate final year and dissertationI have a successful 27 year career in teaching during which I have consistently studied, attained relevant qualifications and experience, updated my technical skills and fed my love of teaching.

In 2019 as Course Leader I devised, wrote, had validated and taught my University’s first BA honours degree in Creative Writing. The course was highly students and taught research skills, study skills and critical thinking to post graduate students. I have worked with, diagnosed and supported undergraduates with dyslexia and across the student population in general, devising writing workshops for students to enable them to fully access their skills in communicating to a wider audience including examiners, assessors and potential employers. I have taught online and in person. I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a dyslexia specialist teacher.

Tutoring Approach

My belief is that it is often necessary for students to learn HOW to learn- learning isn’t always clear and obvious.
I start by assessing a student’s current skill levels, abilities and sense of self.
I then work on the essential foundations of developing study skills and intellectual skills in order for students to fulfil their assignments, course requirements and intellectual curiosity.
I am able to switch registers from young adults to mature students and have extensive and proven experience in developing career and employability skills.
My experience and success in working with neuro diverse students has grounded my in a range of practical, technical and pedagogic skills and strategies to enable deep learning.
I have a range of excellent materials designed to develop time management, academic fluency, grammar, spelling, punctuation, higher order critical thinking skills, planning and organisation, skills auditing and both written and verbal communication
