Developing good English skills is essential for achieving success in every school subject, as well as learning to communicate well in everyday life. There isn't always enough time to develop these skills at school or to address students' individual needs, which is where tutoring comes in. I focus on the essentials of good spelling, punctuation and grammar, in addition to developing good reading/ comprehension skills and improving students' handwriting and composition.
I originally trained to teach adults, and taught Level 1 and Level 2 Functional Skills English to 16+ and adults in further education. After this, I was responsible for coordinating and teaching English to KS2 and KS3 students at a tuition centre for 7 years. I currently work as an SEN teaching assistant at an outstanding primary school, where I teach English and Maths to small groups and give support with writing in the classroom. I use resources from the English core curriculum as well as developing my own teaching and learning resources, but I am happy to use students' own materials to support learning. I have experience in teaching children with dyslexia, dysgraphia, adhd and autism.
I enjoy teaching those who lack confidence in their learning and who have particular difficulties in this area. I have a creative and enthusiastic approach and am able to
communicate difficult ideas in a simple way. I am happy to use students' own interests to create a relevant and individual learning experience.
