I am a passionate and highly experienced Maths teacher with over 20 years in education. I have taught in a range of school settings - independent schools, academies, and grammar schools - and have held both departmental and senior leadership roles. I specialise in A Level Maths and Further Maths, and bring a deep understanding of how to support students through these challenging qualifications. I am committed to making Mathematics both accessible and enjoyable, and I take pride in helping students develop not just skills, but real confidence in the subject.
Over the past two decades, I have taught Maths across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5, working with a wide range of learners and abilities. I am particularly skilled at breaking down complex topics into manageable steps and helping students understand the “why” behind the methods - not just the “how.” I believe that when students grasp the underlying principles, they are far better equipped to tackle unfamiliar problems and develop true mathematical independence. My teaching has always been driven by a belief in making the subject accessible, meaningful, and enjoyable.
I take an informal yet focused approach to tutoring, creating a space where students feel comfortable asking questions and exploring areas of difficulty. Communication is key: I encourage students to share where they feel unsure so that each session can be tailored to their specific needs. I see tutoring as most effective when it complements classroom learning, helping to reinforce and deepen understanding. I carefully plan sessions with clear objectives and encourage students to consolidate their learning between lessons. I also offer ongoing support between sessions - students are welcome to email me if they need clarification or help outside of our scheduled time.
