I am a PhD Student currently studying at The University of East Anglia. I have taught previously both as a private tutor and a teaching assistant in primary schools. As well as teaching, I have worked with various people facing jobs, including as a barista, and a waterskiing instructor. With the University of East Anglia I am writing my debut novel and a thesis about Kazuo Ishiguro. In 2023 I won The Moth Short Story Prize for my story, ‘The Brain Named Itself’. I have also worked as a journalist, and am published in WIRED and Vox.

Tutoring Experience

Previously I have worked as a private tutor, primarily with GCSE-level students, with great success - all of my students achieved above their predicted grades. While at university in Brighton I worked running afterschool clubs in a range of different schools. I previously taught sport as well, working as a waterskiing instructor at Willen Lake.

Tutoring Approach

My teaching approach is patient, fun, and tailored to suit the interests of my students. I am happy to work with students who have a passion for my subject, English, and those who don’t. With students who love English, I aim to nurture their passion by going a little deeper into the meaning of their favourite books and poems than school would traditionally go. If they are not passionate about English, and need help boosting their grades, I aim to take a tailored approach which can make the set texts appealing. No lesson is ever the same — but at the end of every lesson I aim to make sure that my student is approaching their exams with key quotes and perspectives on the text remembered.
