Joseph

My name is Joseph Dawson, and I have just completed my undergraduate degree in performance with honours at the Royal Northern College of Music. I am an accomplished cellist who has been a finalist in both the RNCM concerto competition and the RNCM Barbirolli competition, with a strong knowledge of technical and musical matters and lover of the world of cello playing. I am based in Manchester, close to the RNCM.

Tutoring Approach

My approach will involve a combined focus on a technical understanding of the cello, whilst drawing out as much musical expression as possible. I am fascinated by musical approaches that the great cellists take to their performances, and try to take what I appreciate most in their playing into my own. My own teacher at the RNCM states - 'if you can emulate the methods of the great cellists, you can do anything you want.' This will be part of my approach- looking straight to the great cellists for guidance on how to move forward.
