Based in York, I am a friendly, patient and dedicated tutor with a First Class Masters degree in Physics from the University of York. I will always be prepared, conscientious and focused on helping you succeed in your goals.

Tutoring Experience

I started out by helping my brother with his GCSE maths. My strength has always been in maths/science subjects whereas my brother found it more difficult, but I worked through different maths topics with him, before helping with example questions and past papers. I also tutored a younger student (in degree-level content) at university whilst completing my Masters degree in Physics.

I have since taught all levels of secondary school maths extensively (Key Stage 3, GCSE, A-Level and equivalents), successfully tutoring students of many different abilities. I have found one-to-one teaching to be very enjoyable and rewarding and I take great pride in helping each student improve and succeed.

Tutoring Approach

Patience, empathy and understanding of the individual's needs are at the core of my teaching method. Progress is recorded after each session and future sessions are planned accordingly. Each individual student will vary on what they need to focus on and in what proportions - background theory, preliminary questions or past papers. Sometimes a topic will have to be approached from different angles to bring about understanding and I believe my patience and creativity in this area help.

My knowledge of each maths syllabus (at each level/with different exam boards) is thorough, but beyond this, I also feel it is vital to understand the exam process - where marks are given in exams and what the examiner likes to see. I always try to give the student clear step-by-step techniques to approach questions that can be repeated in the high-pressure atmosphere of exams.

I'm also available for more intense periods of tuition - for example, over summer/school holidays. I realise sometimes students do not always have as much free time during term time, so the holidays might be the best option to work through a subject.
