"I grew up in South London and I took my gcse maths early but only because I had good teachers. Now I work with the homeless, youth offenders and do maths gcse teaching in local schools. This is only possible after studying Learning and Memory as a hobby and by passing the Maths Enhancement Course with Nottingham Trent University, a qualification designed to teach people how to teach maths. When I'm not working, I write fiction, I help with research for the tv show QI and am a stand-up comedy nerd.!
I have tutored privately in gcse mathematics, covered class sessions for absent teachers and teachers on long term leave as a Cover Supervisor and also worked as a Teaching Assistant in secondary schools across Nottinghamshire and Surrey.
It makes sense! Everyone wants a C for their gcse maths because it leads to more earnings and job options. For almost everyone who hasn't managed this yet, maybe it's because there's anxiety around the subject and so there is a block on learning. My approach is not to put learners on the spot or pressure a person about something they don't get. Maybe your teacher moved on before you were ready and you got left behind. This is especially true of maths because so much builds on what came before - you need to understand fractions before you can do formulas and understand probability before you can do statistics. Whatever your situation, I will take responsibility for us, working together, to get a C. This can be done through relaxed coaching and support or, if you think there is too much to learn before the exam, it can still be done by remembering rules and learning how to squeeze the most marks out of each exam question! It might take, work but I'll make it as easy as possible.
