Jonathan

I am 23 years old, born and raised in London. Having enjoyed my time studying in College and achieving a Certificate of Higher Education in Computer Science from Brunel University, I've always felt a need to give back what I have learned in my life. I work as a Contact Centre Advisor for the London Metropolitan Police and want to give back more using my skills by tutoring Mathematics.

I'm very passionate about Maths and it's everyday applications in life so I believe it's integral to learn as much as possible, whilst also enjoying as you go along. I love seeing students get the amazing results they work so hard for, and find it very rewarding to be part of that process.

Tutoring Experience

I have always enjoyed teaching in my early years of college, starting out with Primary School level Mathematics and moving onto helping fellow classmates with their A-Level education in Maths too. I spent a lot of time going through every past paper more than once, teaching others to develop my understanding and even would create my own questions based on the curriculum when I had ran out of questions to answer.

Tutoring Approach

I use clear teaching strategies that are evidenced based and proven to work. I also adapt my teaching style, depending on what methods work best for my students. Some of the core teaching approaches I use, include:
1. Clear lesson and learning goals
2. Detailing to students what they need to know and showing them what they need to be able to do
3. Using questions to check students understanding
4. Having students summarise new learning in a graphical way
5. Giving students plenty of practice
6. Providing students with feedback so they can refine their efforts
7. Giving flexibility with how long it takes to learn
8. Teaching students strategies as well as content
9. Nurturing meta-cognition
