Online English Tuition

I have a PhD in English Literature from the University of Edinburgh (2019), and my work has been published by several of the top academic journals in my field. My research focuses on Renaissance literature and history: Spenser, Shakespeare, John Donne and John Milton, in particular. I also have a masters degree in twentieth-century literature, and subsidiary interests include theology, mathematics, and music. I enjoy teaching across all periods and I’m keen to take on students of literature and the humanities at all levels, from KS3 to doctoral studies. I was awarded a full AHRC scholarship for my graduate and PhD research and I can offer assistance and coaching on these types of applications.

Tutoring Experience

I have recent and extensive experience as an undergraduate tutor at the University of Edinburgh. I have taught modules on medieval and early modern literature (Literature and the “literary” c. 1300-1700), Early Modern Tragedy, and Shakespeare. I also taught modules on contemporary poetry and drama, which focus on questions genre, close reading, and theoretical context.
My teaching duties at Edinburgh required that I engage with and take responsibility for students’ development individually as well as collectively. I gained strong skills in discerning and responding to different backgrounds, experiences, and intellectual needs. I have found these skills to be essential in helping students acquire the means and confidence to frame critical inquiries independently, and see the possibilities of further learning and research.

Tutoring Approach

In my approach to teaching, I try to be responsive, patient, clear and well-organised. While goals and outcomes are likely to be influenced by assignments and exams, I try to ensure that my students learn how to think and write about literature in interesting and passionate ways. In my experience, this is the surest way to producing high quality work. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch for further information and inquiries.
