Joe

Currently freelance in the music industry, Joe Removed is a British-Polish composer, conductor and arranger based in Bristol, England. From an early age, Joe would listen to his grandfather regularly play the organ as a child - something which would arguably go on to form and develop a love for music. Entering a brass band background, Joe picked up the trumpet at 11 years old, whilst teaching himself the piano around the same time.

Tutoring Experience

Studying an undergraduate in performance on tuba at Canterbury Christ Church University, Joe went on to perform in the symphony orchestra, as a tubist, timpanist and percussionist - as well as lead the University Brass Ensemble. During his time in Kent, Joe was commissioned to arrange a fanfare for a congregation at Canterbury Cathedral.

With a keen interest in brass and percussion, Joe regularly plays in some of the leading ensembles in the south-west of England; having performed most recently with the Bristol Symphony Orchestra, Bristol Concert Orchestra and the Flowers (Brass) Band in Gloucester. Joe is a tutor and mentor for the National Children's Orchestra of Great Britain.

Obtaining most recently an MA in Composition in Music for Film and Television at the University of Bristol, Joe has studied under a number of prominent film composers and orchestrators including Richard Blackford, Martin Kiszko and William Goodchild. Joe is currently being mentored by the current composer of the Netflix TV series 'The Crown', Martin Phipps.

Based in Bristol, Joe has written a number of scores for short film , animation and chamber ensemble, currently working also on a string octet for 2020. As we approach 2021, Joe begins work on his newest piece for orchestra, 'Centenary', commissioned for the Longwell Green Orchestra in partnership with Arts Council England - due to receive its world premiere in 2021.

Tutoring Approach

As a tutor, Joe has a great eye for detail and strives to get the most out of his students ; and is always keen to build on a student's strengths and find what it is that makes them passionate for the subject; working with them case-by-case to develop their knowledge in the discipline.
