Joe

Hi! My name is Joe - I have recently completed a degree in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge and a master's in Biomedical Research from Imperial College London. My studies have provided me with a breadth of knowledge spanning multiple areas within mathematics and biology, and I am keen to share my knowledge with others. Outside of my degree, I enjoy sport, particularly football, for which I played for the university team and captained my college team. I also enjoy running and cricket, and have recently started learning Spanish.

Tutoring Experience

I have worked as a tutor for three years, teaching biology and maths at GCSE and A-level. Having achieved an A* in all the GCSE and A-level courses I tutor, I am well aware of the best approaches to tackle the current curriculums, as well as the small tips and tricks required to achieve those important extra marks in the exams.

Tutoring Approach

For my tutoring, I favour a student-based approach, whereby the needs of the student are first identified and a tutoring schedule is tailored to target the weaker areas the student may have. Specifically, for mathematics, I like to focus on particular topics before practising past paper questions, for which I provide model answers, where the student can really get to grips with what is expected in the exam. For biology, I like to first ensure the student is at home with the core concepts of the course before progressing to incorporate the additional details required to achieve higher marks in the exam. For both subjects, where possible, I like to bring in ideas from outside the course to give the student a better grounding in their subject, and to provide the student with exciting concepts that may inspire them to consider pursuing a career in these fields.
