Hi, my name is Jin Hui and I am a recent BA Hons Linguistics graduate from Lancaster University. Being Malaysian and then coming to the UK for my further studies, I have been exposed to many different syllabi, as well as analyses of these individual education systems and their strengths and weaknesses. My multicultural and multilingual background affords me an understanding to the myriad ways a student might struggle with learning a topic, while my education provides me insight into how an examination or curriculum might assess their performance. In tandem, these factors allow me to break down and assess a student's academic performance both systematically and compassionately.
Throughout my years of education, I have proofread, edited and tutored peers and juniors alike in their schoolwork, regardless of subject. From beta reading and giving constructive criticism on creative writing pieces to proofreading university essays in psychology and human resource management, I am able to assess a piece of work, pinpoint and explaining what changes would benefit the text regardless of the content. Besides that, having learned multiple languages myself, I am very familiar with the various struggles a student might run into as they encounter new material and linguistic systems. I believe that this empathy and the perspective it provides me allows me to approach a student's struggles and relate to them, thus allowing me to assist them more constructively.
My main objective is to collaboratively address each students' personal weak points in the subject in a way that is conducive to their individual learning style. Rather than following a strict syllabus, I am more interested in directly targeting skills or subtopics that an individual is struggling with and work with the student to improve their performance in that area.
