I am a retired General Practitioner with an interest in Science, especially Physics. I no longer treat patients, but I work part-time at Warwick Medical School, teaching students how to communicate with and examine their patients.
For the past 3 years I have been coaching my grandson, first in GCSE Physics, and then A level Physics. During lockdown teaching was via Zoom. I also devised some experiments for him to conduct at home, with simple apparatus. We would discuss the results at our subsequent meeting.
I have been teaching medical students for about 20 years.
I have 3 years' experience of Physics tutoring.
I am friendly, approachable and will tailor the sessions to the needs of the student. I always start from what the student already knows. I like to hear them explain a concept to me first, to ascertain how much they understand about it. I will use diagrams, simple demonstations, videos, analogies and examples from the real world to illustrate points. I place emphasis on learning the definitions of physical concepts, and associated equations, and encourage students to make flash cards for revision. However, the most important factor in exam success is doing exam questions. I like to set questions from past papers for homework, and review the answers at the start of the subsequent session.
