I have developed and implemented successful online teaching systems for English, both first and second language over the last 20 years. I have taught both one to one and small groups.

Tutoring Experience

I am an English teacher with over 35 years experience of teaching English as a Foreign Language and 18 years teaching English first language and literature up to GCSE level.

I have summarised my English and EFL qualifications and experience below:

BA (Hons) (LEEDS), PGCE with TEFL (LEEDS) 1987, Dip TEFL leading to MA in Linguistics 2000 (CANTERBURY CHRIST CHURCH)
3 years as DIRECTOR OF STUDIES/Centre Supervisor of a summer school based in Tunbridge Wells 1985,1986, 1987
7 years as DIRECTOR OF STUDIES of a year round language school in Hastings setting it up and establishing it as a British Council recognised school 1988 to 1995
1 year as DIRECTOR OF STUDIES for a French company owned school in Hastings, to set it up and establish it as a recognised British Council school 1999 to 2000
2 years of development of specialised English for Insurance and English for Professionals materials for the Chartered Insurance Institute including designing and implementing face to face courses and specialist teacher training courses for tutors.
3 years as project manager of the south east
10 years as DIRECTOR OF STUDIES of a summer school in both Hastings and Dover from 2002 to 2012
22 years part time delivery of one to one specialist EFL with adults with specialisms in particular English for the pharmaceutical industry and English for law as well as preparation for IELTS
14 years as KET/PET Cambridge Examiner from 1996 to 2010
18 Years as a teacher of GCSE first language English and English Literature from 2002 to date
I am currently undergoing training to be an IELTS examiner.

Tutoring Approach

Whatever the student wants to achieve in learning English I will do my best to help. If they want to achieve the best they can at Key Stage 3 or 4, I have over 18 years of teaching experience in this area. I have enabled students who lacked confidence to move from a fail to a pass at GCSE. If they want to learn about the British culture or they want to improve their professional communication I can give them the opportunity to do so. Most importantly, I can support their linguistic needs whatever they may be.
