Hello, my name is Jenny and I have six years experience teaching English Literature, Language and Media Studies. I am currently taking a break from teaching to pursue my interests in the Publishing Industry. However, I am keen to continue working with young people and using my teaching skills in my spare time. Tutoring Experience

In my last role, I was the Head of Department for Media Studies at a successful school in South West London making me directly accountable for the results of my GCSE and A-Level students giving me a lot of experience in preparing students for exams. My results were positive and consistent each year. Alongside this, I continued to teach English up to GCSE level. I also have experience teaching A-Level English Literature in small groups and through individual tutoring. Throughout my six years, I have had the opportunity to work with a variety of exam boards and I am also a registered examiner for Eduqas. I am always open to learning new things and do not shy away from content that I may not have covered before as there is a lot of overlap between the different exam boards.

Further to this, in my roles as Key Stage Three co-ordinator for several years at a secondary school in Bath, I have a good understanding of how to support students in the younger years with English skills such as reading, spelling, grammar, punctuation and creative writing.

Tutoring Approach

My approach to teaching and tutoring is individualised. With each new tutee, I like to start by getting to know them before assessing their prior knowledge to help individualise their learning content to reflect their specific needs.

I like to think I am friendly, approachable but also knowledgeable and can appropriately challenge the student to meet their goals.
