I am a qualified primary school teacher with 13 years of teaching experience. I have a BA (Hons) Education with English Studies degree from York St John University. I have a QTS certificate and am qualified to teach across the primary age range.
I have a DBS Enhanced certificate from the start of my last teaching position in 2014 and I am currently in the process of getting a more up-to-date version.
I have recently completed a 120-hour TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) course online.
I trained for 4 years to gain my degree. My subject specialisms are English and Literacy but I am confident to teach any subject from across the primary curriculum. My teaching experience has mainly been in Key Stage 2 (Years 3-6), although I also have some experience of Key Stage 1. As a qualified teacher, I have a wealth of experience in identifying where pupils need intervention and putting targets in place to ensure that they are able to make progress in their learning. I adapt my teaching methods to enhance my students’ preferred learning styles and specific needs. I have regularly led booster catch-up sessions for Y6 pupils in the lead up to SATs.
My first ‘getting to know you’ session is free. In this session I will find out more information about you/your child and carry out a short assessment so that we can all be clear about the areas that we will work on together and find out about any areas of strength.
I’m new to tutoring but I am an experienced primary classroom teacher, with senior leadership experience. Because of being new to tutoring online, I have recently completed an Open University course called Taking Your Teaching Online, in which I learnt about the benefits and challenges of teaching online, as well as some tools that I could use in my teaching and ways to increase accessibility, usability and inclusion. I've recently completed an online course about identifying student learning barriers, why they occur and how to develop targeted interventions to address them. I feel that this will benefit myself and my students greatly as it will help me to understand why they don't understand something and know specifically how to address this. I've just started another course about teaching maths for ages 8-14, which particularly focusses on the problems that children might have in their maths learning and how to address them. As I'm sure you can tell already, I love learning, but I love teaching even more!
