Hello! I am currently a senior scientist at an international biotechnology firm. I completed my BSc Biochemistry at Imperial College London, MSc Immunology at King’s College London, and PhD at the University of Sheffield.
One of my favourite things about my time in academia is the chance to teach and mentor students from different backgrounds. Seeing their “A-HA!” moments when something clicks for them and succeeding in their unique ways bring me great joy. The intellectual companionship my students provide is something I treasure; talking through scientific concepts and discussing everything that stem from them not only help my students gain new insights, but I sometimes learn from them too!
I’ve enjoyed tutoring and mentoring numerous undergraduate and postgraduate students (both local and overseas) in biochemistry, molecular biology, and related subjects. Whether it’s helping tutees understand complex concepts in a classroom setting, or teaching them new experimental techniques in a laboratory setting, I always aim to give them a glimpse into how their new-found knowledge relates to everyday research and real-world biological phenomena.
I have also proof-read and guided thesis- and essay-writing for my peers and tutees, helping them understand their topics and improve their scientific writing. I have also helped UCAS applicants on their personal statements, which led to offers from their top choice universities! So, should you require help on written assignments, I can provide that too!
If you are an international student, I also have tricks to help you with your essay writing. As someone who hailed from overseas, I understand the difficulty of writing not only in a foreign language, but also scientifically at the same time!
My approach is to first listen to my tutees about what they wish to learn, and what they require assistance with. I also like to engage tutees with meaningful questions, which spark their curiosity and help find their areas of knowledge gaps. This encourages students to find out more for themselves; whether that means asking their own questions during our discussions, or looking through textbooks and scouring the literature, the understanding and knowledge they gain will likely stay with them for longer!
