Jay

Rowena holds a BA honours in Primary Education from Oxford Brookes and QTS, with additional certifications in TESOL and Cambridge English. She is also a Jolly Phonics trainer. Originally from Oxford, England, she is entering her 15th year teaching at Private International Schools ranging from Japan, Hong Kong and where she has now called home for 12 years, Italy. She also has an Ma in Business Management from UCal Berkeley, but much like her mother, who was a teacher for 46 years, teaching really won her heart.

As your child transitions from their early years of education to their primary years of education, Rowena will share this adventurous learning journey with them. She is a passionate educator and she enjoys empowering her students.Having worked in international schools for many years and have been based in Italy for the last 12 years, within this time she has observed how children with English as their first language and children with English as their second or even third language achieve and succeed equally well. When not teaching, she other creative pursuits, like arts and crafts projects, swimming and horse riding"

Tutoring Experience

I have been teaching for 15 years EYFS-KS2 in a classroom setting, tutoring for entrance exams for 6 years and teaching online to elective home education students and tutoring for entrance exams for the 4+, 7, 11+ and 13 plus for grammar schools, independent schools and boarding schools. I have in depth knowledge of all exam boards, GL, CEM, ISEB, including Kent and Buckinghamshire, The London Collegiate, Sutton and Tiffins as well as in house papers written by independent schools like Magdalen College School, Oxford, The Dragon and Little Dragons, John Lyon to name but a few. I also have a very high success rate.

Tutoring Approach

I am a kind, cal and gentle teacher, who takes great care in listening and discovering where my student is becoming confused and then doing a properly planned lesson or lesson until the get the green light of understanding. I am very positive reinforcement based and holistic.
